The Cost of Clever Systems
Novel architectures are expensive in exactly the moments teams can least afford them.
Clever systems can be fun to design because they imply control. They also create maintenance burdens that arrive long after the design meeting is over.
When the real requirement is delivery under pressure, the engineering bar should favor systems that are easy to explain, easy to debug, and hard to misuse. Technical maturity is often visible in what a team chooses not to invent.
This does not mean avoid ambition. It means spend novelty where the product needs it and keep the supporting machinery plain.
